Guwahati: At least one person was killed while two others sustained several injuries during an accident at an under-construction ethanol plant in Sipajhar of Darrang, Assam on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sariful Islam, a worker at the plant.

Two other workers, Osman Ghani and Nizam Uddin, sustained serious injuries and were immediately admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The onsite workers claimed that there were no company officials or senior supervising officials on the site during the accident.

A worker said that the accident was a result of non-availability of safety measures.
Sariful and others fell from a nearly 75-foot construction structure which the workers claimed was due to no safety measures provided by the contractor.

They also claimed that right after the incident, they even could not get a vehicle from the company on time to transport the injured to a hospital for timely medical attention.
Further, onsite workers have demanded for compensation for the affected workers and have urged for strict safety measures.
