Guwahati: The Darrang-Udalguri Lok Sabha constituency in Assam emerges as a new political entity through the process of delimitation, carved out from the erstwhile Mangaldai seat.
Comprising a total of 11 Assembly segments, the Darrang-Udalguri Lok Sabha seat encompasses six seats within the jurisdiction of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and five segments outside the BTR. The Assembly segments include Rangia, Kamalpur, Tamulpur (ST), Goreswar, Bhergaon, Udalguri (ST), Mazbat, Tangla, Sipajhar, Mangaldai, and Dalgaon.

The constituency has a significant Bodo electorate, with the number of assembly segments from the BTR increased to six within the parliamentary seat following the delimitation process. According to 2024 data from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the constituency comprises a total of 1,099,294 voters, including 1,087,866 males and 2,187,160 females.
The upcoming elections in this constituency are poised for a three-way contest among the Congress, the BJP, and the BPF. The BJP has nominated sitting MP Dilip Saikia, while the Congress has fielded Madhab Rajbangshi, a former representative of the seat for two consecutive terms in 1998 and 1999. Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF has nominated Durga Das Boro. The constituency is scheduled to go to polls in the second phase on April 26.

In the fiercely contested 2019 General Assembly Elections, Mangaldoi witnessed an 83.60% voter turnout. BJP candidate Dilip Saikia emerged victorious in the 2019 General Election with a margin of 1,38,545 votes, securing a total of 7,35,469 votes. Saikia defeated Bhubaneswar Kalita of the INC, who garnered 5,96,924 votes.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Ramen Deka of BJP clinched victory with 4, 86,230 votes. The runner-up was Kirip Chaliha of the Congress party, with a margin of victory of 22,800 votes.
