A middle-aged woman was killed in a road mishap at Lepetkata village near Tangla town in Assamโ€™s Udalguri district.

The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Basanti Boro, an inhabitant of Lepetkata village.

The pedestrian woman was hit by a speeding bike, bearing registration number AS01DH3549 in which she was seriously injured.

She was immediately taken to Tangla community health centre where she was declared brought dead.

โ€œThe rider of the motorcycle hit the woman after losing control over his vehicle. The rider also received injuries but is stated to be out of danger,โ€ said a relative of the victim.

Meanwhile, Tangla Police have registered a case and started an investigation into the case.

The locals have raised concern over โ€œdrink and driveโ€ related accidents.

โ€œTangla Police must take cognizance of the rising incidents of rash-driving by youths who are mostly found in drink and drive mode,โ€ said Karen Kachari, a villager.

Meanwhile, a pall of gloom has descended in the village of the victim.
