A middle-aged woman was killed in a road mishap at Lepetkata village near Tangla town in Assam’s Udalguri district.

The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Basanti Boro, an inhabitant of Lepetkata village.

The pedestrian woman was hit by a speeding bike, bearing registration number AS01DH3549 in which she was seriously injured.

She was immediately taken to Tangla community health centre where she was declared brought dead.

“The rider of the motorcycle hit the woman after losing control over his vehicle. The rider also received injuries but is stated to be out of danger,” said a relative of the victim.

Meanwhile, Tangla Police have registered a case and started an investigation into the case.

The locals have raised concern over “drink and drive” related accidents.

“Tangla Police must take cognizance of the rising incidents of rash-driving by youths who are mostly found in drink and drive mode,” said Karen Kachari, a villager.

Meanwhile, a pall of gloom has descended in the village of the victim.
