Guwahati: Singer Zubeen Garg on Tuesday said that he will keep opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 (CAA) and will not let any more persons die in the protests against it in Assam.

In a statement, Garg said that he had been opposing the controversial Act since 2017 (then the Citizenship Amendment Bill) and his stance on this has never changed.

“I opposed the CAA and will keep on opposing it till it is repealed”, he said.

Zubeen Garg stated that he does not care about who is in which party and all he cares about is the people in Assam with the fact that no one should lose their lives in the protests against CAA.

“Since an early age, I have seen people lose their lives in protests. Similarly, in the CAA protests, we lost five boys. I will not let any more die in the protests”, he added.

Garg, however, added that the protest against CAA must be carried on stating that there are various ways to protest.

He said that he would continue with the protests both on stage and on social media.

He added, “People of Assam will not accept the CAA even if the government forces it on us. It can by no means succeed. Hindu-Muslim division in Assam does not work.”

He further said that Assam is for the people of Assam and Indians. “There can be no outsider here”, he asserted.

Zubeen Garg further said that since cases against the CAA are ongoing at the Supreme Court of India, he wishes to contribute to those cases by any means.

He stated that he believes that the court will surely provide a positive response with a victory against the CAA.
