NORTH LAKHIMPUR: Pradan Baruah, the sitting BJP Lok Sabha MP from Lakhimpur, officially filed his nomination for re-election in North Lakhimpur on Tuesday (March 26).

Accompanied by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with other ministers, coalition partners, and MLAs, Baruah submitted his nomination papers before the district returning officer, Gayatri Hayelinge, in North Lakhimpur.

Prior to the nomination filing, a public rally was organized by the BJP at Tyagkshetra in North Lakhimpur, where Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the gathering.

CM Sarma urged the electorate to support the incumbent MP for another term in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Among those present during the nomination filing were Assam education minister and Dhemaji MLA, Dr Ranoj Pegu; state agriculture minister and AGP leader, Atul Bora; state minister Ashok Singhal, Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka, Bihpuria MLA Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, Jonai MLA Bhuban Pegu, Sadiya MLA Balin Chetia, Doom Dooma MLA Rupesh Gowala, Majuli MLA Bhuban Gam and former minister Naba Kumar Doley.

In a parallel development, the candidate from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Ghana Kanta Chutia, also filed his nomination for the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency.

Chutia was accompanied by Assam TMC president, Ripun Bora, during the nomination filing process.
