The pathetic condition of the road of Paschim Hahini village near Tangla town in Assam’s Udalguri district has drawn strong resentment from the villagers.

The dilapidated condition of the road has also exposed the tall claims of development by the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and the State Government.

The road which falls under Paneri LAC and Khalingduar BTC constituemcy is a lifeline for the people of the village and neighbouring villages of the area.

Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) supremo Hagrama Mahillary’s dream of model BTC seems to be a mere illusion when it comes to the reality of the greasy and muddy road which worsens during monsoon season.

Though the village is situated just four km away from Tangla town, it is bizarre that people’s voice to repair the same has failed to draw the response of the representatives for the past decade.

The villagers of the area cursed the government, which boasts of bringing development in terms of road communication. The condition of the surface communication link is presently so pathetic that the people can hardly walk on it, not to speak about vehicular traffic as the road has lost all its sheen.

The poor road condition has also been posing a big hurdle to the school students. Besides, the farmers also find it tough to send their produces to the nearby markets. It also poses threat to the patients as ambulances can’t reach them in need of hour.

The people of the area have been demanding the State Government and the BTC authorities since long for early repair of the road, though their collective pleas have not been taken seriously by the representatives for over the past decade.

“The MLA, MP, Executive Members of BTC and the Deputy Commissioner, none of them have visited this village. The representatives have never turned up after they were elected,” said Kanaksen Deka, a villager.

“Our children face lots of hardships in peddling to schools specially in rainy days and we have to wade through knee deep water,” said Ratan Deka another villager.

The villagers have exhorted for necessary measures by the State Government and the BTC at the earliest.
