Doomdooma: A grand cultural procession titled โ€œBarerahania Samanvoy Sanskritik Shobhayatraโ€ was held in Doomdooma town of Tinsukia district on Thursday, drawing large participation and showcasing the regionโ€™s cultural diversity during Rongali Bihu celebrations.

Organised by the Doomdooma Public Rongali Bihu Celebration Committee, the procession began from the Town Playground and passed through key areas of the town before concluding at the same venue. Scores of people from different communities took part in the event with enthusiasm, turning the town into a vibrant hub of festivity.

Participants representing indigenous Assamese communities, Tea Tribes and Bhojpuri groups joined the procession, reflecting a spirit of unity and inclusiveness that defines Assamโ€™s most celebrated festival.

The event featured traditional Gayan-Bayan performances, along with the presence of elephants, adding a distinct ethnic flavour to the celebrations. Several cultural groups presented folk music, dance and artistic displays, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural traditions of the region.

โ€œWe are delighted to witness such overwhelming participation from all sections of society. This procession truly reflects unity in diversity and the cultural richness of our region,โ€ said Deben Deka, an executive member of the organising committee.

Organisers said the successful event has set the tone for the upcoming Rongali Bihu programmes scheduled to be held from April 21 to 23, which are expected to feature a series of cultural performances and community celebrations.
