NFR Zubeen Garg bihutoli
The facility has been envisioned as a permanent space to host cultural gatherings.

Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has developed a dedicated cultural venue at Maligaon for celebrating Bihu and other major events, naming it the โ€œZubeen Garg Railway Bihutoliโ€ in honour of the noted Assamese artist.

The facility has been envisioned as a permanent space to host cultural gatherings, reflecting Zubeen Gargโ€™s enduring influence on Assamโ€™s cultural landscape.

According to NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the Bihutoli is equipped with modern infrastructure, including a permanent stage, dining hall, toilet complex, community space, boundary wall, and an all-weather ground.

The newly developed venue will host the annual Rongali Bihu celebrations organised by the Pandu Bihu Sanmilani, Maligaon, from April 14 to 17.

Ahead of the festivities, a pre-Bihu inauguration event was held at the site, attended by NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava. The programme featured traditional Bihu performances and saw participation from railway officials, local residents, and cultural enthusiasts.

Adding a personal touch to the occasion, Palmee Borthakur, sister of Zubeen Garg, was present and expressed the familyโ€™s gratitude for the recognition accorded to the celebrated artiste.

Railway officials said naming the Bihutoli after Zubeen Garg highlights his lasting contribution to Assamโ€™s cultural identity, particularly during Rongali Bihu, one of the stateโ€™s most important festivals.
