Assam: UP trucker tried to flee from Kokrajhar police custody, injured in encounter

Another person was injured in an encounter with the Assam Police in Kokrajhar after he allegedly tried to flee from police custody on Monday night.

As per sources, the person was identified as Haren Yadav from Uttar Pradesh.

He is a trucker and was apprehended by the police on Monday with a truck loaded with ganja amounting to Rs 70 lakh.

He was under police custody for questioning regarding the ganja which was being taken to West Bengal but on Monday night, he allegedly tried to flee from police custody.

The police said that left with no choice, they had to resort to controlled firing to prevent him from escaping. He received a bullet injury on his leg but is in stable condition.

The person who is now suspected to be linked with a smuggling racket is now being treated at a government medical facility.

The Kokrajhar earlier on Monday said that the vehicle suspected to be carrying contraband was stacked with ganja weighing approximately 300 kilograms. The ganja was said to be from Manipur and was worth Rs 70 lakh.
