The Government of Assam has announced that soon Deepor Beel will be converted into a major tourism hotspot and at least 100 houseboats will be set up.
All encroachers in Deepor Beel will be soon evicted and work for the development of the lake will soon be initiated.

The government has already planned the eviction and soon initiatives will be taken to promote Assam’s only Ramsar site as a major tourism spot.

The tourism department has already asked the revenue department for a report on illegal settlers in the area.

In a written reply, Tourism Minister Bimal Borah said that the department is exploring all possibilities for converting Deepor Beel into something similar to Kashmir’s Dal Lake.
He added that since the site is a bird sanctuary, there are certain issues will the execution of the project but the forest department has agreed to a few initiatives.
The department will build certain infrastructure at the site which will include a watchtower and 100 houseboats.
