Assam University Diphu Campus Students’ Union (AUDCSU) blocked the entrance gate of the University Campus at Diphu from 10 in the morning in support of their various demands.
However, they withdrew the strike after assurance from the Pro Vice Chancellor of the University Campus to look into their demands.
The demands of the AUDCSU included immediate establishment of the Controller of Examination (CoE) branch office in Assam University Diphu Campus (AUDC), inclusion of all colleges of Karbi Anglong under the administration of AUDC, establishment of Chemistry, Mathematics, Biotechnology, Education, Economic, Law, Sociology, Mass Communication, Tourism and Microbiology departments in the Campus.
They also demanded immediate appointment of Deputy Registrar, Assistant Registrar, Section Officer, Lab Attendant, System Analyst, Personal Assistant and filling up of vacant posts and naming the AUDC Central Library in the name of Padmashree Bonglong Terang.
Talking to the media, AUDCSU General Secretary Sarkangthim Rongpi said, “We have withdrawn our strike today after the assurance of the Pro-Vice Chancellor (PVC) Prof Sivasis Biswas that he had a telephonic conversations with the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Assam University, Silchar Prof Dilip Ch Nath regarding our issues.”
Rongpi also said, “We are going to hold a meeting with Vice Chancellor Prof Dilip Ch Nath as he is visiting our campus on April 18.”
The blockade ended at around 11:30 am after the Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Sivasis Biswas visited the protesting students.
It may be mentioned that the Assam University Diphu Campus (AUDC) was established in 2007 with only six departments. Since the Campus is under the administration of Assam University, Silchar, various students’ organisations of the region have demanded for a full fledged university since its inception.
