Giving a blow to the activities of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA0I) in Upper Assam, the Army personnel under the Dao Division on Wednesday were able to nab one over-ground worker of the outfit from Sepon in Dibrugarh district.
According to information, based on specific intelligence inputs regarding movement of over-ground workers of the anti-talk faction of the ULFA in the general areas in between Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts, a joint operation was launched by the 9th Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles and Moran Police on July 17, 2018 at around 4 pm.
“During the operation, one over-ground worker of the ULFA (I), identified as Deben Hazarika, son of late G Hazarika, aged 58 years, has been apprehended along with 9 mm pistol and one magazine with five live rounds on July 17, 2018 at 5:30 pm, while travelling on the Sepon-Demow road on his Bajaj Discover motorcycle,” said sources.
He was actively involved in several extortion and anti-national activities on behalf of the proscribed outfit, added sources.
The information to be provided by the apprehended ULFA-I over-ground worker may seem to be vital in conducting operations against the militant outfit in the near future.
Recently, the 9th Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles conducted several successful operations to mitigate the impact of ULFA-I in Upper Assam.
This operation was also a part of the ongoing crackdown by security forces on the militant outfit active in Upper Assam.
