Two people died in a road accident near Banipur Rail gate in Dibrugarh on Sunday morning.
According to reports, the accident took place when one Bolero pick up van bearing registration no. AS23 BC 8932 hit a truck (no AS01 GC 3926) from the backside. Both the vehicles were coming from Tinsukia side.
The driver of the Bolero car, Prashanta Hazarika and handyman Dudu Handique died on the spot.
“Till now, it is not clear whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or not. Most of the accidents took place after consuming alcohol and rash driving,” a police source said.
“Many accidents are reported every day. Most of the accidents were occurred due to rash driving. While driving, many people don’t follow the simple traffic rules as a result accident took place. Road fatalities are rising in Assam, every year people are killed in road accidents,” said an official.
According to data, 8872 accidents took place in Assam out of that 3058 people killed in 2014.
In a major road accident, one youth was killed and another four persons were injured at the link road from Seujpur to AMCH in Dibrugarh on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Karan Gill (22), a resident of the AMCH campus in Dibrugarh.
