Guwahati: Two men were killed after drowning in a well in Tamulpur, Assam on Wednesday.
Reports state that a labourer, identified as Tapan Rajbangshi (45), reportedly entered the well for some construction work.

He was working at the residence of 60-year-old Chandra Bahadur Limbu in Number 1 Kalipur village and became overcome by suspected oxygen deprivation.
Witnessing the labourer’s struggle, Limbu entered the well himself in a bid to save him.
However, the attempt did not go well and both men succumbed in the well.

Locals said the incident occurred due to an acute water shortage in the area.
They claimed that the Jal Jeevan Mission water supply project had been non-functional for over a year, forcing people to rely on unsafe wells.
The bodies were retrieved from the well and sent for post-mortem examination to Mushalpur.
