Two policemen including the officer-in-charge of Gauripur police station in Assam’s Dhubri district have been removed from duty with immediate effect.
This action comes after a man in Dhubri district committed suicide soon after returning from the Gauripur police station on August 20.
The deceased, identified as Harendra Nath Roy, a resident of Kurirpar village under Gauripur police station, committed suicide on August 20 in the morning.
After the death of Roy, his daughter, Pratima Roy formally lodged a complaint on Monday with the Dhubri superintendent of police alleging that the OC of Gauripur police station, Himakshi Nath, brutally beat her in front of her father.
She also alleged that police officer Nath abused the members of their family in connection with a verbal order from the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Dhubri, Himakshi Borthakur Burgoahain.
In her complaint, Pratima alleged that her father committed suicide due to the brutal assault on her in front of him (Harendra Nath Roy) by the OC of Gauripur police station, Himakshi Nath.
In her complaint against the OC of Gauripur police station and the CJM of Dhubri, Pratima Roy further stated that she worked as a domestic help at the official residence of Dhubri CJM Himakshi Borthakur Buragohain and later the CJM had removed her from work after paying all her dues.
Pratima Roy said after 12 days of quitting the job at the residence of the CJM, the OC of Gauripur PS visited her house and asked her father to meet in the police station saying there was an allegation against her of stealing a silver glass from the residence of the CJM.
On Tuesday, Dhubri superintendent of police Abhujit Gaurav said, “Two women police personnel including the woman sub-inspector Himakshi Nath and woman police constable Pratima Ray have been removed from the Gauripur police station and closed to police reserve with immediate effect.”
“Based on the preliminary inquiry report, submitted by the deputy superintendent of police, Dhubri (HQ), the two police personnel have been removed from duty with immediate effect and necessary show-cause notices are being issued for further departmental action,” the Dhubri SP said.
