Doomdooma: Dialysis services at Dhubri Medical College and Hospital were disrupted following an alleged theft at the facility on Saturday, causing difficulties for patients dependent on regular dialysis treatment.
Police arrested two persons in connection with the incident and recovered the stolen materials, officials said.
According to reports, Rahul Haque (24) of Jhargrapara Part III and Sajidul Mondal (26) of Jhargrapara Part I allegedly entered the dialysis centre and stole electrical wires and other equipment. The theft reportedly brought dialysis services to a temporary halt, leaving patients who had arrived for treatment without access to the facility.
The two accused were subsequently arrested by Assam Police, and the stolen items were recovered.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal said an incident of theft at a hospital should not be treated as an ordinary property crime when it disrupts essential medical services.
He said the incident had directly affected patients who rely on hospitals for critical treatment and warned that attempts to interfere with essential healthcare services would not be tolerated.
Singhal also questioned the motive behind stealing equipment from a medical facility established to provide life-saving treatment.
The minister thanked Dhubri Medical College and Hospital Superintendent Dina Raja, Principal Anku Moni Saikia, and the institution’s staff for their efforts to restore dialysis services within a short period. The team reportedly worked through Sunday to resume treatment for patients.
Meanwhile, calls have been made for a detailed investigation into the incident, including examination of other possible aspects surrounding the theft.
