Pathsala: Assam Health Minister Ashok Singhal expressed concern over the growing prevalence of mental health problems in India, stressing the need for greater awareness and proper healthcare support.
The minister made the remarks during a meeting held after the inauguration of the newly constructed building of Swahid Madan Rowta Civil Hospital in Pathsala, Bajali district.
Singhal also pointed to the growing use of social media and the decline in outdoor activities as factors that may contribute to mental health problems, particularly among young people.
He said maintaining a healthy balance between digital engagement and physical activity is important, while encouraging people to spend more time outdoors and remain socially active.
Singhal stressed the need to address mental health alongside physical health and called for greater public awareness, early identification of mental health concerns and access to appropriate treatment.
He said mental health has emerged as an important public health concern and that collective efforts are needed to ensure people receive timely support and care.
The inauguration of the new hospital building is expected to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve medical services for people in Bajali and neighbouring areas.
