The torch relay of the 3rd Khelo India Youth Games, 2020 reached Haflong on Monday.

To receive the torch relay, an event was organized by the Dima Hasao district sports officer at NL Daulagupu Sports Complex in Haflong at 3 pm.

NC Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) chief executive member (CEM) Debolal Gorlosa lit the torch and flagged off the relay in presence of NCHAC sports EM Golonjoy Thaosen, Haflong Municipal Board the chairman and NCJAC MAC Manjit Naiding and additional deputy commissioner Deepak Jidung.

Encouraging the youth present at the event, CEM Gorlosa stressed the importance of physical activities and sports in today’s world.

Citing the example of renowned sportspersons from Northeast like Hema Das, Mary Kom and footballers from Dima Hasao like Baoringdao Bodo, Rakesh Pradhan and bodybuilder Pranab Langthasa, Gorlosa said, sports is equally important as studies for education.

Through sports, a person can bring laurels to the place from where the person belongs.

Eminent international sports personality in the field of bodybuilding Pranab Langthasa was also present at the event.

The Assam government in collaboration with the Assam Olympic Association has organized the torch relay of the 3rd Khelo India Youth Games, 2020, in all districts.

It was earlier launched by Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Guwahati.

The objective of the torch relay is to disseminate the message of games throughout Assam and to mobilize the support and active participation of all sections of society.

The torch is being carried by 4 groups comprising office-bearers of Olympic Association, officials of sports & youth welfare department Babul Dutta, eminent sports personality Joel Bey, ex-football player from Karbi Anglong district.
