Three youths drowned in a stream of the river Brahmaputra at Maijan area in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district on Sunday.

The three friends had gone at Maijan area to spend some free time on Republic Day.

A pall of gloom descended in the entire greater Jalan Nagar area of Dibrugarh. The entire residents of the area are in a complete shock after they heard the news.

Gopal Tamang, father of Roshan Tamang said that he was to appear for higher secondary final examination from DHSK College.

“He was a very good and obedient boy. He was serious in his studies. On Sunday, he left home around 1.30 pm but never returned alive,” Tamang said.

Sanjay Barman, a driver by profession, was a neighbourer of Roshan Tamang and both of them were good friends.

Post-mortem was done at AMCH on Monday and after that the bodies were taken to their home. Sanjay and Roshan were cremated at Maijan ghat.

Rajiv was cremated at Chowkidinghee crematorium.

Rajiv, a resident of AMCH campus, was a student of class 10. His father Kamal Dowerah works at AMCH.
