Three persons including woman were mowed down by an unidentified vehicle at Chapai along the Mangaldai – Bhutiachang PWD State Highway in Assam’s Darrang on Thursday.

The hit and run incident took place at around 5:30 am.

The victims were later identified as Suren Saharia (56), Kiron Debi (52) and Manjula Nath (50) belong to nearby Adhamapara village.

They were in a regular morning walk when a speeding vehicle from Mangaldai towards Kalaigaon direction hit all of them from behind and fled from the place unnoticed.

This was informed by sources in the Traffic branch of Mangaldai Police Station.

The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom in the greater Chapai and Adhamapara area.
