Mangaldai Police have arrested three persons including a woman and husband of the deceased in connection with the sensational murder of a young woman in Assam’s Darrang district.

The body of the woman was recovered on Monday afternoon alongside an infant from an abandoned public grazing ground at village Ramhari – Adhamapara few kilometers from mangaldai.

Officer-in-charge, Mangaldai police station Niranjan Baruah informed that those arrested are Fainuddin Mandal (27), husband of the victim and his associates Makser Ali (50) of No 1 Thekerabari village under Dhula Police Station and Rabia Khatoon (42) @Ambika W/O Sukur Ali, a resident of No 2 Baghpuri village under Mangaldai Police Station.

“All the accused were nabbed from near a public bus stand at Ward no 2 of Mangaldai when they were planning to flee from the the district,” said inspector Baruah.

“It is a dowry related murder as admitted by the accused during our preliminary interrogation,” he added.

Meanwhile talking to Northeast Now, superintendent of Mangaldai Civil Hospital, Dr Gopinath Bora on Wednesday said the baby is under the close observation of doctors at the Post Natal Intensive Care Unit.

“Doctors have been closely monitoring the baby and we are hopeful that we will be able to hand over the baby to his guardians soon,” Dr Bora said.

“CWC member Purnima Goswami while visiting the baby has also expressed satisfaction over the responsibilities of the hospital staff in dealing with the baby,” he maintained.
