After the incidents of drowning of two boys in Bajali-sub-division under Barpeta district, on July 18, 2018, three more boys – one from Badankuchi and two from Maripur-Anandapur – met their watery grave in the area on Friday. With the incidents of July 20, 2018, the drowning death toll has risen to five within three days.

According to information, Bijit Kalita, a third year degree student of Bajali College and son of retired Army jawan, a resident of Badankuchi, went to take bath in a pond near their house. As the family members of Bijit did not get any information about his whereabouts for several hours, they started searching for him in the nearby pond after being informed that he had gone to take bath to get relief of scorching heat.

“After noticing his foot wears on the bank of the pond, on suspicion that he might have drowned while swimming, a search was started immediately and his body was recovered from deep water,” informed sources.

On the other hand, 13-year-old Parash Nath, son of Naba Nath and Parul Nath of Maripur-Anandapur in Nityananda area, and 9-year-old Alakesh Nath, so of Bhabesh Nath and Nirmali Nath of the same village died after drowning while taking bath in river Kaldiya.

It may be mentioned that two young students lost their lives in Bajali sub-division of the district when they went to take a dip in the pond on July 18, 2018 to beat the heat.

While one of the students died in Pathsala town, another student died at Kurobaha-Tangla in the district. According to information, the youths drowned in two separate ponds when they went to take bath in order to get relief from the scorching heat.
