Guwahati: Premium Assam teas continued to witness strong demand at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC), with Deckiajuli Tea Estate creating a new milestone during Auction Sale No. 22 after its BOPSM grade tea fetched a record Rs 800 per kg.
The tea, produced by Deckiajuli Tea Estate, owned by Parry Agro Industries Ltd., achieved the highest price ever recorded for the estate at the auction centre. A total of 260 kg, comprising 10 packets, was sold.
Located on the north bank of the Brahmaputra in Sonitpur district, Deckiajuli Tea Estate is known for its robust black CTC teas with rich caramel notes and bright amber liquor, making it popular among buyers in both domestic and export markets.
The premium lot was marketed by J Thomas & Co. Pvt. Ltd. and purchased by Jain Tea Company.
Guwahati Tea Auction Buyers Association (GTABA) secretary Dinesh Bihani said the steady demand for quality Assam teas in Indian and overseas markets was helping gardens secure better prices at the auction centre.
He said the auction system had ensured transparency, proper price discovery, and fair trade practices for all stakeholders in the tea industry.
Bihani further noted that GTAC, regarded as one of the worldโs largest CTC tea auction hubs, continues to play an important role in strengthening Assamโs tea economy. He said more tea producers are now routing their teas through the auction platform and are satisfied with the prices being realised.
Referring to recent policy support from the state government, he said the Assam Governmentโs subsidy of Rs 15 per kg on orthodox teas is expected to encourage more manufacturers to sell through GTAC. According to him, the move could help transform the auction centre into a major hub for orthodox teas, which continue to enjoy strong export demand.
Earlier in the 2025โ26 season, tea from Hookmool Tea Estate had fetched Rs 831 per kg, the highest price recorded for CTC tea at GTAC.
The Guwahati Tea Auction Centre is among the worldโs largest tea auction platforms, specialising in CTC teas and serving as a key marketplace for tea producers, buyers, and exporters.
