The Assam tableau at the Republic Day Parade, which showcased the rich dance forms and craftsmanship of the State, has bagged the first prize.

The gorgeous tableau of Assam at the Republic Day parade had attracted the attention of the audience and the judges because of the unique concept.

Senior officials of the Ministry of Defence told Northeast Now that Assam government has already been informed about the result of the competition.

Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday will hand over the trophies to the winning states at Rashtriya Rangshala Camp in Delhi.

Odisha tableau, which was designed by Gajendra Sahoo, bagged the second prize, and Uttar Pradesh secured the third position.

A senior official from Assam Bhawan in New Delhi is likely to receive the award from the defence minister.

As bamboo and cane are integral parts of the Assamese lifestyle, the Assam tableau had prominently displayed the craftsmanship.

A variety of products like mats, baskets, sieves and jaapi were on display on the tableau at the Republic Day parade.

In addition to bamboo and cane craftsmanship, the Assam tableau displayed the unique tradition of handloom in the State.

The Assam tableau had also showcased various dance forms of the state, especially the Bhortal dance of Assam.
