The court of the District and Sessions Judge, Nagaon on Wednesday granted bail to Nagaon’s suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sabita Das.
Sabita Das has been under suspension since September 17 last on charges of being allegedly involved in a bribery case.
Talking to Northeast Now, Nagaon Superintendent of Police Shankar Brata Raimedhi informed on Wednesday that the police have interrogated the suspended DSP in connection with the bribery case.
“After the interrogation, Sabita Das applied for bail in the court of the District and Sessions Judge, Nagaon which granted her bail with a condition to cooperate the police during investigation into the case,” Raimedhi told Northeast Now.
It may be mentioned that suspended DSP Sabita Das allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 40000 from one Saurav Hazarika when he asked the DSP to return the documents of his vehicle, which were taken by her after Hazarika along with three others were detained along with the vehicle on August 31.
Hazarika, a resident of Panigaon area in Nagaon town, had mentioned in his complaint letter lodged with the Assam Director General of Police (DGP) on September 3 that on August 31 when he along with three of his friends were busy in conversation inside his car at around 12.30 am in front of his house, police officer Das had detained them for quizzing.
Hazarika also mentioned in the letter that he was released by the DSP along with three of his friends on September 1, but demanded a bribe of Rs 40000 from Hazarika when he requested Das to return the documents of the car.
