Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday directed Managing Director, Swachh Bharat Mission, Grameen Siddharth Singh to expeditiously complete the construction of toilets, at a review meeting held at the conference room of his chamber in Janata Bhawan.

Though around 24 lakh toilets have been constructed since the present dispensation took over the reign of power in the state, Chief Minister Sonowal reiterated that constructing toilets for the households and motivating the people to adopt a healthy and hygienic life style will go a long way to take Swachh Bharat campaign to its logical conclusion. Sonowal also took stock of the climatic factors like flood and incessant rain that hit hard in the construction of toilets, he assured to extend all possible help in completing the construction on a war footing.

Chief Minister Sonowal however, asked the Managing Director Swachh Bharat Mission, Grameen to take extra efforts like engaging more masons for completing the construction of the toilets. He also asked the Managing Director to involve more women work forces along with NGOs and SGHs for the construction of toilets in an apparent bid to evoke a sense of responsibility among the people.

He also took stock of the district specific progress of toilet construction and asked the Managing Director to adjudge the districts as first, second and third depending on their performance in Swachh Bharat Mission which in turn inspires others to construct expeditiously.

Siddharth Singh, Managing Director, Swachh Bharat Mission Assam gave a presentation on the progress of implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission explaining the target of making Assam open defecation free by 2019.

Sonowal also reviewed the physical progress of the different pipe water schemes in the state. It may be noted that under Mission 100, state government would launch 100 water supply schemes on a single day. Sonowal also asked the PHE department to develop maintenance legacy for the water supply schemes for their sustenance.

Minister of Public Health Engineering Rihon Daimary, Chief Secretary TY Das, Additional Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Sanjay Lohiya were present at the meeting.
