All preparations for conducting smooth election to Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAC) and Mising Autonomous Council (MAC) have been completed in Sivasagar district on eastern Assam.

A meeting for familiarization of the police and civil sector and zonal officers engaged for the two autonomous councils’ election that is going for poll on Monday was held under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner (In-charge) and Additional Deputy Commissioner Nawab Al Azhar Ali on Saturday at the Sukafa Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Sivasagar.

After facilitating the familiarization of the polling officials, the DDC (I/C) dealt at length on their duties and responsibilities on the day of the poll that is scheduled to begin at 7 am and conclude at 3 pm on January 21 next.

He suggested the polling officials to visit the respective polling stations, interact with the gaonburhas and booth level officers (BLOs) and stake stock of the basic minimum facilities of the polling stations.

During the meeting, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ashwini Doley stressed upon furnishing the two hourly report on polling percentage on time. He called upon the police and civil zonal- sector officials to work in proper coordination.

The election officer Jagadish Brahma also apprised the sector and zonal officers that the materials for polling would be distributed from the office premises of the Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad.

He also informed sufficient numbers of vehicles were arranged for tranportation of the polling personnel.

Additonal Superintendent of Police Navin Singh informed about the security measures taken for peaceful, free and fair conduct of the ensuing election in the district.

He said that one constable, one home guard jawan and three village defence parties (VDPs) per polling station have been depolyed for the purpose.

Further, para military forces have been put in place for area domination on the day of poll.

Two election control rooms, one of district administration and the other of police have been operationalized for recieving any election related information or complaint.

The poll for Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council under No 17 Rajabari Constituency will be held in 10 polling stattions; whereas for Mising Autonomous Council under No 34 Disang- Dikhow Constituency, poll will be held in 22 polling stations.

A total of 4268 voters, of which 2214 are male and 2054 female, will exercise their franchise for Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council election.

Likewise, for Mising Autonomous Council Election, a total of 16,238 voters, of which 8190 are male and 8048 are female, will cast their vote on January 21 next.

For election to Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council, three zonal officers, 10 presiding officers and 30 polling officers have been engaged.

Whereas, for election to Mising Autonomous Council, three zonal officers, 22 presiding officers and 70 polling officers have been engaged.

It may be noted that for smooth conduct of the election, the polling officers have been imparted training on January 17 and 18 last at the conference hall of the office of the Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad.

Circle Officer of Sivasagar and Demow Revenue Circles Samprity Goswami and Monorama Morang respectively, Circle Officer (Attached) of Demow Revenue Circle Indica Gogoi were present in the meeting besides a host of other officers and staff engaged for the election process.
