Assam Handloom, Textile and Sericulture Minister Ranjit Dutta on Sunday laid the foundation stone of Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council Secretariat at the District Library here on behalf of the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
The State government has sanctioned Rs 7.8 crore for the construction of the proposed Secretariat in Dibrugarh.
Speaking on the occasion, Ranjit Dutta said for the uplift of the villages, the State government has taken up several developmental schemes.
“Very soon, the State government under the Chief Minister Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana (CMSGUY) will select ten villages to be developed as model handloom villages and training centres will be set up in these villages for training purposes for the weavers,” said Dutta.
Minister Dutta also said the State government is planning to set up training centres in 100 villages where the weavers’ community of Assam can get training.
The minister informed that the government has already purchased 5 bighas of land for construction of the Sonowal Bhavan at Sonapur in Guwahati.
“Earlier government did nothing for the development of the Autonomous Councils but the BJP-led Sarbananda Sonowal government is committed to work for the development of the Autonomous Councils and recently the government allotted funds to such Councils for carrying out development works,” Dutta said.
Dibrugarh MP Rameshwar Teli, Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan, Lahowal MLA Rituparna Baruah, Sonowal Kachari Autonoumous Council Chief Executive Member Dipuranjan Makrary were also present on the occasion.
