A special NIA Court on Thursday discharged Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi in the second UAPA case lodged against him.

Akhil Gogoi has been discharged in the second of the two UAPA cases lodged against him for allegedly inciting violence during anti-CAA protests in Assam and probable nexus with Maoists.

He was acquitted in the first case on June 25.

Gogoi was discharged by the court after the NIA failed to establish his alleged links with Maoists.

This second UAPA case against Akhil Gogoi was registered at the Chadmari Police Station in Guwahati.

Following this, Akhil Gogoi is all set to walk out of jail today itself.

Akhil Gogoi was arrested in December 2019 during the anti-CAA protests in Assam. Since then, the Akhil Gogoi was in jail.

Meanwhile, Raijor Dal working president Bhasco de Saikia has said that “the verdict of the NIA Court establishes the fact that the BJP Governments in the Centre and Assam are using investigation agencies for their own benefits”.
