In view of the COVID19 pandemic, the Shrimanta Shankar Academy Society (SSAS) has decided to relax the monthly tuition fees of the students of its 5 educational institutes.
Shrimanta Shankar Academy Society, which was formed in 1991, started the first private junior college in Assam.

There are currently a total of 5 well-recognised and reputed educational institutes, including private engineering and pharmaceutical colleges in the state, run by the Society.
The institutes are Shrimanta Shankar Academy, Panbazar; Shrimanta Shankar Academy Senior Secondary School, Dispur; Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management & Technology (GIMT), Guwahati at Azara; GIMT, Tezpur and Girijananda Chowdhury Institute Pharmaceutical Science (GIPS), Guwahati.
Talking to Northeast Now, SSAS secretary Bijayananda Chowdhury on Monday said, “Keeping in view of the pandemic in the state, Shrimanta Shankar Academy Society has decided to initiate relaxations of the students’ monthly tuition fees of 5 educational institutes.”

He said, “It has been decided to relax the monthly tuition fees of the students of GIMT, Guwahati; GIMT, Tezpur and GIPS, Guwahati by 20% for six months from July-December 2020.”
Chowdhury further informed that the monthly tuition fees of the students of SSA Senior Secondary School, Dispur, have also been relaxed by 20% for 3 months from July-September, 2020.
Besides, the monthly tuition fees of the students of Shrimanta Shankar Academy, Panbazar have been relaxed by 15% for 3 months from July-September 2020.
In the separate notices, issued by the Society on Monday, it has been said for the students, who have already paid the fees for the months, for which the relaxations have been initiated, will be adjusted accordingly with the payments to be made in the future.
Chowdhury informed that the GIMT, Tezpur is already serving as a COVID Care Centre while the GIMT, Guwahati will start functioning as a Covid Care Centre soon with a capacity of 1,000 beds.
