At a time when the state of Assam has been witnessing rising incidents of rape and other crimes against women and children, an eight-year-old minor girl was allegedly raped by a 19-year-old youth identified as Ajhar Ali at Bangalgaon (Batabari) village under Mazbat police station in Udalguri on Monday last.
The sensational incident came to light only on Wednesday.

According to reports, the accused, a mason by profession and a tenant in the residence of one Gopal Lahkar allegedly lured the minor and her five-year-old brother to his room and committed the heinous act before tying the hands of the brother accompanying her.
The girl child narrated the entire incident to her parents following which her father lodged an FIR with Mazbat Police.
The police apprehended the youth from his rented shed vide Mazbat P S case no 53/18 under 376 of IPC and relevant section of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
