Guwahati: Assam-based RTI activist Dulal Bora was apprehended by Delhi police on Wednesday morning in a case related to the alleged exploiting of the Right to Information (RTI) act for “personal benefits”.

Police sources said that Bora was apprehended in Delhi and is expected to be brought to Assam soon.

He was involved in filing an RTI application regarding irregularities in the construction of a local temple in Rajapukhuri panchayat and despite receiving departmental responses, he allegedly continued to harass panchayat representative Debojit Hazarika.

However, Hazarika, a local BJP leader unable to bear the “harassment” allegedly died by suicide leaving names of Dulal Bora and three other persons including two journalists in a note.

There have been allegations of him being involved in using the RTI documents to lodge complaints and allegations against officials.=
He would then demand money from these officials in exchange for withdrawing the complaints.
The matter is currently under investigation, police sources said.
