Digboi: Suspected cadres of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) attacked an Assam Police Commando Battalion camp at 10th Mile in Jagun, Tinsukia, on March 22, 2026, just days ahead of the Assembly elections.

Militants reportedly fired 4โ€“5 rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) at the camp in a swift, coordinated strike carried out from concealed positions before escaping under the cover of darkness.

At least four commando personnel were injured in the attack.

According to a close source, the identities of the four soldiers have been confirmed. They are Chitranjan Milli from Jorhat, Robin Ghosh from Chabua, Dibrugarh, Jimbus Marak from Goalpara, and Devashish Bora from Jorhat.

They are currently being treated at Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh, with one of the injured reported to be in serious condition, even as the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.

Local residents informed NeNow that the RPG attack was followed by a prolonged exchange of gunfire, indicating a fierce battle between the militants and security forces after the initial strike.

Security forces have since launched massive counter-insurgency operations, placing the entire region on high alert.

The attack occurred along a known militant corridor near the porous Assamโ€“Arunachal Pradesh border close to Myanmar, particularly the Jagunโ€“Jairampurโ€“Nampongโ€“Manmao stretch, which has witnessed similar ambushes in the past.

With ULFA-I suspected, the timing of the strike, just ahead of the Assam Assembly polls, has raised serious concerns about a possible attempt to disrupt the electoral environment and test security preparedness.

The situation remains tense as search operations intensify and investigations continue. More details are awaited.
