The District Road Safety Committee of Dima Hasao under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Amitabh Rajkhowa had a meeting regarding various road safety measures in the district.

Various points were discussed in order to ensure that no life is lost or no untoward incidences occur on road. Measures to evade traffic congestion points like schools, market areas especially on market days, auto-rickshaw parking places were also pointed.

The traffic control authority was asked to ensure implementation of the resolutions taken at the meeting on Thursday in joint efforts by the Excise Department and the district transport authorities.

It was also decided that drunken driving would be on check on road, specially on the National Highway for which the roadside dhabas would also be brought into account.

“Proper signages would be installed on the highways with clear indication of speed limit around certain areas in Dima Hasao. Speed has been the major cause of accidents on roads for where proper responsibility has to be taken up by the drivers,” stated a DIPR, Haflong press communiqué.

It was also disclosed that the rate of loss of lives has no doubt decreased compared to other years but this further has to be prevented as briefed by the District Transport Officer (DTO), Dima Hasao, A Mazid.

The meeting was attended by Project Director, NHAI, Haflong, DSP in-charge of traffic, officials from Excise Department, Medical and Information & Public Relations.
