As concern for the ongoing COVID-19 continues to grow, Assam on Sunday recorded 988 cases of the COVID-19 in total.

While the total number of cases is less than the number of cases on the previous day, the positivity rate stood at 6.48 per cent.

Apart from this, Kamrup Metro has recorded 490 of the total 988 cases alone.

The state further recorded one new death related to the virus.

There were no reports of any new cases of the Omicron in the state.

Assam currently has strict norms to contain the virus which includes a 10 pm-6 am curfew.

Along with the curfew, workplaces have been encouraged to work with 50 per cent capacity along with work from home.

At least 14 new COVID-19 cases were detected at the Dibrugarh University in Assam.

Samples of all the 14 COVID positive students are reportedly being sent for whole-genome sequencing.

Following detection of the new cases, at least seven girls’ hostels reportedly have been declared as containment zones.

A portion of the university campus has also been declared as a containment zone.
