Assam reported 23 more Covid19 deaths and 2169 new positive cases in the last 24 hours. 

Confirming the news, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet on Tuesday evening said that the new cases were detected out of 1,24,381 tests. 

The state’s overall positivity percentage on Tuesday stood at 1.74%. 

Of the new cases, the Kamrup Metro district registered 258 cases. 

While 23 patients lost their lives due to Covid19 infection, hundreds of other patients recovered from the disease. 

The state’s Covid19 recovery rate stood at 95.07%.

However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday, raised concern over the COVID-19 situation in the Northeast. 

PM Modi interacted with the chief ministers of the Northeast states and reviewed the COVID-19 situation in the region. 

Notably, COVID-19 situation in some of the states of the Northeast is still precarious. 

PM Modi said that while COVID-19 situation in other parts of the country has improved considerably in recent times, the pandemic situation in the Northeast is a matter of concern. 

PM Modi said that aggressive testing, for early detection of the infection, is the need of the hour.

Modi emphasised on high vaccination, minimal vaccine wastage, adopting micro-containment zones to combat COVID and the need to adhere to all COVID related protocols. 

Asking all the Northeast states to keep an eye on all the variants of the virus, PM Modi said that the states in the region must bring in use its past experiences in fighting the pandemic. 

“Experts are studying the mutations and variants”, said PM Narendra Modi. 

He added: “To prevent COVID19, we have to take stricter steps.” 

“Large crowds without masks in hill stations, is a huge cause of concern,” the Prime Minister further said. 

During meet with NE CMs, PM Narendra Modi praised Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for ‘controlling’ COVID-19 through micro-containment and not enforcing total lockdown.
