Assam has registered 1,142 new COVID19 positive cases, taking the state’s overall tally to 32,228.
Confirming the news, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet on the state’s latest COVID19 status said a total of 20,542 tests were conducted in the state in the last 24 hours, out of which 1,142 came out positive for COVID19..
The health minister said the positivity rate is 5.55%.
“Alert ~1142 #COVID patients detected out of the 20542 tests done in last 24 hrs.This means a low positivity rate of 5.55% – a good news,” health minister Sarma tweeted.
The health minister informed that out of the total positive patients detected on Sunday, Guwahati has reported 171 cases, Kamrup has reported 188 cases and Darrang district has reported 100 cases.
Sarma said Assam currently has 9,091 active COVID19 cases.
Earlier, a total of 23,055 patients, who were earlier infected by COVID19, have been discharged from various hospitals across Assam after they tested negative.
With the demise of two more positive patients due to infections on Sunday, the COVID19 death toll in Assam has increased to 77.

Health minister Sarma in an earlier tweet on Sunday said the COVID19 victims have been identified as 53-year-old Baisakhi Roy from Tinsukia and 50-year-old Birendra Shah from Dibrugarh.
Both of the COVID19 positive patients were undergoing treatment in the Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) at Dibrugarh, the health minister informed.
