Guwahati: While Assam grapples with devastating floods impacting lakhs of residents, a curious discovery has brought a touch of wonder amidst the crisis.

Locals in south Assam’s Karimganj district netted a rare fish with four eyes and a long spine. All India Radio News shared a video of this fascinating creature on social media.

“An unusual catch! A fisherman in Karimganj reeled in a rare species of fish with four eyes and a long spine during the floods,” wrote All India Radio News in their social media post featuring the video.

The clip showcases a black and white coloured fish with four distinct eye spots and an elongated spine. A crowd gathers around, marvelling at this unique creature.

This isn’t the first time such a creature has been spotted! A similar sighting was reported in Chattisgarh last year. This mysterious fish continues to fascinate observers across the region.

The scientific name for this four-eyed fish is Anableps anableps. Its unique bulging eyes allow it to see above and below the water at the same time, which is a helpful adaptation for its environment.
