Guwahati: Assam as well as Meghalaya braces for heavy rain and thunderstorms starting today.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted widespread showers and warned of potential flooding, river rises, and landslides in the state over the next few days.

Rainfall accumulations could exceed 150 mm in some areas, posing a significant risk in Assam and Meghalaya.

Meanwhile, the monsoon continues its advance southward, reaching southern Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Residents in these regions can expect increased rainfall activity in the coming days.

While Assam contends with heavy rainfall, heatwave conditions are expected to persist in Northern India.

However, the scorching temperatures exceeding 40°C are likely to recede from the Southern Peninsula later this week.

In the west, a western disturbance will bring rain to the Western Himalayan Region starting Tuesday, June 4.

Apart from Assam, widespread showers and thunderstorms are also predicted for Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sikkim.

It may be mentioned that with the heavy rains, floods have also been reported across Assam.
