Assam’s prestigious Madhavdev Award was ceremoniously conferred to Devoraj Sapkota, president of Udalguri chapter Zila Sahitya Sabha on Monday.
The award, second in line after the prestigious Sankardeva Award, was conferred at Sundaridiya Satra in Barpeta on the grand occasion of the three-day long celebration of 530th Avirbhav Mahotsav of Mahapurush Madhavdev.
The award carries a commendation certificate, a phulam japi, a seleng chador and a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
Satradhikar Jagannath Dev Adhikari, Satradhikar of Sundaridiya Satra of Barpeta, Dhireswar Bayan, secretary of Satra Parichalana Samiti presented the award to Sapkota in recognization of his contribution to the Satriya art and culture by way of translating Kirtanghosha, Gunmala, Borgeets and Bhakti Pradeep by Mahapurush Sankardeva, Namghosha by Mahapurush Madhabdeva into the Nepali language.
Nirmal Adhikari, Deka Satriya of Sundaridiya Satra of Barpeta and Rosy Devi Bhuyan, renowned singer enthralled the audience with Borgeets in Assamese and Nepali respectively.
Gunin Das, MLA of Barpeta LAC was also present on the occasion. Udalguri Zila Sahitya Sabha and Udalguri Sahitya Sabha congratulated Sapkota for his achievement.
