With the launch of Aronai-made masks, Assam social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma on Friday added the Bodo fabric to the COVID19 masks.

Minister Brahma launched the masks made of Bodos’ Aronai, prepered by the Self Help Groups (SHGs) under the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM), Kokrajhar on Friday at the conference hall of Kokrajhar Commerce College.

The minister thanked the SHGs and the ASRLM Kokrajhar for coming up with the masks made of Bodo traditional fabric to be used for protection from COVID19 virus.

Talking to reporters, ASRLM Kokrajhar district project manager Bichitra Birjya Narzary said minister Brahma had a departmental review meeting on COVID19 and other related issues at the conference hall of Kokrajhar Commerce College.

On the occasion, minister Brahma also distributed 40 masks, made by SHGs under ASRLM Kokrajhar, to the officers and media persons present in the meeting.

Narzary said there are 60 SHG members working under 38 SHGs to produce masks to make up the scarcity of masks in Kokrajhar district.

The SHGs have already produced a total of 6,913 masks till date, he informed.

Narzary informed that they have sold masks at a low rate and 300 masks have been distributed free of cost to the poor people.

He said from March 28, 2020 they have been producing Aronai-made masks for all the citizens of state which can be used for safety.

Narzary added, “We will prepare around 50,000 to 80,000 Aronai masks and sell among the people.”
