A district level convergence meeting on ‘Poshan Abhiyan’ involving various line departments was held at the conference hall of the DRDA in Kokrajhar of Assam on Saturday.
The meeting chaired by project director of DRDA, Kokrajhar, Pranjit Kumar Wary, discussed the various activities that are being carried out in the district as part of the ‘Rashtriya Poshan Maah’ (national nutrition month).

The month of September is being observed as ‘Rashtriya Poshan Maah’ as part of ‘Poshan Abhiyaan’ flagship programme all over the country with the theme ‘Har Ghar Poshan Tyohaar’.
It aims to address the issue of malnutrition and improve the nutritional outcomes for children, adolescents, pregnant women and lactating mothers through a targeted approach and convergence.
Kokrajhar division programme officer Satyaban Brahma presented an overview on the Poshan Abhiyan National Nutrition Mission (NNM).
Brahma in his presentation highlighted on the objectives of Poshan Abhiyan which aims to prevent and reduce malnutrition, stunting in children and low birth rate amongst others.
She also briefed about the suggested activities being undertaken in the district and stressed on the activity calendar including awareness campaign for adolescent girls, mapping of anaemia among students, amongst others.
District social welfare officer of Kokrajhar, S K Nath, said the active participation of various stakeholders and convergence of similar schemes related to nutrition is the need of the hour which will go a long way in addressing the issue of malnutrition plaguing the country.
Representatives from Joint Director of Health Services, Public Health Engineering, Inspector of Schools, Kokrajhar, Anganwadi Supervisors and others attended the programme.
