Guwahati: Daniel Langthasa of the National People’s Party (NPP) submitted his nomination papers on Friday, March 20 to contest the Haflong Assembly seat in Dima Hasao district.

He arrived at the District Commissioner’s office, accompanied by NPP national vice president James Sangma and a large group of supporters, and formally completed the nomination process with the election authorities.

Speaking to reporters afterward, Langthasa said he was encouraged by the local community’s support. He explained that the NPP is approaching the elections with a fresh agenda aimed at addressing regional issues and strengthening the representation of indigenous communities at a broader level.

The candidate criticized the current state administration for uneven development in Dima Hasao, claiming that most residents have seen little benefit while only a small portion has gained.

He raised concerns over unfinished road projects due to unpaid contractors, shortages in LPG supply, and weak enforcement of land protections under the Sixth Schedule. Langthasa also alleged that significant land parcels were transferred to external companies without consulting the local population.

Langthasa stated that voters are looking for leaders who will actively raise their concerns in the Assembly. If elected, he intends to focus on proper implementation of Article 244(A) of the Constitution and ensuring that the rights guaranteed under the Sixth Schedule are upheld.

Commenting on the competition, he said that facing BJP candidate Rupali Langthasa will not be difficult, noting that the challenge could have been greater with a different opponent.
