Guwahati: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered the posting of five IAS officers as District Election Officers (DEOs) in Assam as part of preparations for the 2026 Assembly elections.
In a communication issued on March 16, ECI Secretary Rajiv Ranjan informed the Government of Assam that the decision was taken after reviewing the stateโs poll preparedness for the upcoming elections.
According to the order, P. Uday Praveen (IAS-2016) has been posted as the District Election Officer of Kokrajhar, while Srishti Singh (IAS-2021) has been appointed DEO of Majuli.
Kimnei Changsan (IAS-2014) will serve as DEO of Baksa, and Madhusudan Nath (IAS-2014) has been posted as DEO of Chirang. Meanwhile, Jay Vikash (IAS-2021) has been appointed the District Election Officer of Udalguri.
The Commission directed the state government to implement the postings with immediate effect and submit a compliance report confirming that the officers have assumed charge by 3 pm on March 17.
The order also stated that officers who have been transferred out should not be assigned to any election-related duties until the completion of the electoral process.
