Guwahati: The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) has rolled out its first batch of candidates for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, putting forward 17 names as part of its plan to grow its influence in the state.

The party, led by Mamata Banerjee, has selected nominees from different regions, spanning Lower Assam, North Bank, Upper Assam, and the Barak Valley.

In Lower Assam, Udangsri Narzary will contest from Baokhungri, Mominur Islam from Bilasipara, Arif Akhtar Ahmed from Jaleswar, and Kaushik Ranjan Das from Abhayapuri. Kalyani Kalita will run from Bajali, Dulu Ahmed from Chamaria, and Bhoglal Rabha will fight for the ST-reserved seat in Boko-Chaygaon.

Bikash Nath Yogi, Amirul Islam, and Rajan Chouhan have been nominated from Palasbari, Barkhetri, and Goreswar, respectively.

From North Bank and eastern Assam, Hare Krishna Deka is set to contest Mangaldai, while ST-reserved Dhemaji will see Narendra Kumar Paw as the party’s candidate. Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district will have Jiten Nag in Digboi and Dilip Moran in Makum.

In Barak Valley, Tapas Das will represent Udharbond, Fazlur Rahman Laskar from Katigorah, and Shahajahan Laskar from Sonai, aiming to build support in the Bengali-speaking areas

AITC leaders say these candidates aim to connect closely with local communities and focus on regional concerns, offering voters an alternative to established parties.

More candidates are likely to be announced soon as the party finalizes alliances and seat-sharing for the 2026 elections.
