Police in Goalpara district of Assam are on maximum alert to thwart any subversive activities with just a day left for 72nd Independence Day celebrations.

Intense checking by police and commando has been going on at all entry points from neighbouring state of Meghalaya.

On the other hand, security forces have been conducting massive combing operation along Assam-Meghalaya inter-state boundary at Krishnai in the district.

Notably, Goalpara Police is apprehensive of some subversive attacks by militants from the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) and Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) on the eve of Independence Day at the instruction from dreaded ULFA-I leader Drishti Rajkhowa who is holed up in the dense jungles along Assam-Meghalaya inter-state boundary.

Such apprehensions have kept the entire security system on its toes in Goalpara district.

Maximum checking is going on along National Highway 51 with security personnel frisking every single vehicle coming from Tura in Meghalaya’s Garo Hills.

Anti-insurgency operations have also been launched in adjoining hills of along Assam-Meghalaya inter-state boundary.
