A team of Assam Police personnel on Saturday rescued Kushal Kalita and Jayanta Kachari, who were kidnapped by some miscreants, safely in the Rani forest along Assam-Meghalaya border, on the outskirts of Guwahati.
The two businessmen were kidnapped on June 30, 2021 from the Rani Garbhanga reserve forest area.

During the rescue operation, one of the kidnappers received bullet injury in the leg, Assam director general of police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said while confirming the news on his Twitter handle.
The state DGP said operation against the kidnappers is still going on.
“Kushal Kalita and Jayanta Kachari have been rescued from the kidnappers in Rani forest area by our brave @assampolice personnel just sometimes back. In the operation one kidnapper has been shot. Operation ongoing. Will post details soon,” DGP Mahanta tweeted on Saturday evening.

According to reports, Jayanta Kachari is the younger brother of former BTC executive member Ganesh Kachari.
He is also stated to be the brother-in-law of Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary.
According to reports, Bhadrewar Timung, one of the kidnappers, has been nabbed by a team of police, led by the deputy commissioner of police, west police district, Guwahati.
The kidnappers reportedly demanded ransom for the safe release of the duo.
The kidnappers fell into the police trap as the family members of the kidnapped businessmen reached Rani forest to pay the ransom amount, according to reports.
