In its continued fight against drug peddlers, Assam Police registered 22 cases, arrested 49 persons and seized more than 2 kg of brown sugar from different parts of the state in the last 24 hours.

Confirming this, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is also in charge of the home department, in a tweet said Assam Police also seized 14.31 kg of ganja and 1,17,138 narcotic tablets.

Assam Police also seized 21 bottles of Codeine-based cough syrup; 252 grams of opium and cash amount of Rs 4,33,270 on June 5, the chief minister said in a tweet.

On Sunday, Karbi Anglong Police recovered 26 soap boxes containing approximately 331 grams of heroin from the possession of one Abdul Kadir.

Bongaigaon Police in a tweet said police arrested a ganja dealer, identified as Santanu Deka along with 4.50 KGs of suspected ganja from North Salmara on Sunday.

The Sivasagar Police on Sunday arrested two persons with 290 Sampex tablets from Haluating.

An amount of Rs. 30,000 and one bike were also recovered from the possession of the duo.

Meanwhile, Jorhat Police in a tweet on Sunday said: “Based on credible information Jorhat Police caught two persons and recovered one container containing suspected Brown Sugar. Legal investigation being initiated.”
