Assam Police is no way involved with the process of holding the examinations for the selection of candidates for appointment as sub-inspectors of police, clarified Director General of Assam Police, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.

In a letter to the Assam Chief Secretary, the DGP clarified the position of the Assam Police regarding the examinations for the recruitment of sub-inspectors.

In the letter, the DGP stated that the State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLRB) chairman did not hold a single meeting regarding the preparations for holding the examinations.

Mahanta, in the letter, also informed that even though two serving officers of the Assam Police were SLRB members, however, they were never consulted by the chairman.

The officers only received copies of the routine dispatches to the government, Mahanta further wrote in the letter.

The letter further said that Assam Police was kept in dark on vital information including the security of the venues, movement of question papers, etc.

SLRB chairman directly issued instructions to the district Superintendents of Police without informing the DGP or the ADGP (Law and Order), Mahanta further wrote in the letter.

Suggesting a series of measures for conducting the examination in a better way, the DGP further said that short and long-term measures should be taken to bring about transparency in the recruitments of the state government.
