A 32-year-old man was killed and many others injured over a dispute that arose during fishing in a pond at Tepurpara village under Mankachar police station in Assam’s South Salmara Mankachar district.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Anowar Hussain, a resident of Tepurpara village.
The dispute that arose over the fishing in a pond in the village led to clashes between the two groups of the same community.
The injured were first rushed to the nearest primary health centre and later shifted to the Goalpara civil hospital.
According to the villagers, the clash started at around 11 in the morning of Thursday after a group forcibly tried to go fishing in the pond located near the residence of the deceased.
The deceased, his father and other family members resisted the opposite party.
But the opposite party attacked them with sharp weapons in which the Anowar Hussain, his father Jel Hoque and cousin Alom were seriously injured.
Anowar Hussain, who sustained serious injuries, was referred from the primary health centre to Goalpara civil hospital for better treatment.
But he succumbed to his injuries on the way to the Goalpara civil hospital at around 5 pm.
As soon as the news of the death of Anowar Hussain spread like wildfire, the villagers in the evening tried to set the house of one of the accused involved in the killing in the fire.
Meanwhile, based on the complaint lodged by the deceased’s father, the police have arrested three persons.
The arrested persons have been identified as Arshad Ali (20), Hazrat Ali (28) and Fatik Mondal, all are residents of Tepurpara village.
A police team is camping in the village and the police said the situation is under control.
